Yava Technologies Inc. is developing a proprietary, low cost, environmentally friendly in situ leach mining (ISLM) technology that has the potential to eliminate much of the cost and pollution associated with traditional approaches to mining. The ISLM system is designed to recover minerals from porous medium or tailing ponds, producing a target mineral as a value added product rather than a concentrate to be shipped to a smelter. Current mining practices produce large tailings ponds which present a large environmental risk, along with containing hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars in metal that was previously unrecoverable. Preliminary research indicates that Yava’s technology may be able to recover up to 95% of the metals and significantly reduce the environmental footprint of the mine site.
